This portrait is partly what inspired this whole project. It is a portrait of Elly Clarke’s maternal great great great grandfather Edmund Warre, Headmaster of Eton, by her paternal great great great grandfather George Richmond in 1855. Little did these two men know, that years down the line, their descendants would meet and have 2 kids (Elly being one of them.)
It is in the Eton College collection. George Richmond also portrayed Warre’s daughter Dora as a child, which is one of the private collection portraits we’ll be looking at.
